  • Search and find magazines on Google Book Search
  • – Google continues to hit home runs… they added magazine content today to Google Book Search… this is great news for researchers!! Another source…

Of course, that means there is more information out there to comb through, but that is what the digital age is all about! :)

  • The Networked Student
  • – This is a great video that really shows how a student today can use web 2.0 tools to learn! Great points about social networks, iTunesU, blogs, wiki’s, and the role of teachers!

  • YouTube – Did You Know 2.0
  • – I don’t know if I have shared this yet, but I came across it again today. Great YouTube video about the world today… lots of stats that are good to get you thinking about a global educational society. :) (About 8 minutes long)

  • TED
  • – The TED talks are some of the most thoughtful and stimulating I have ever seen… and now they are available on an iPhone app! Awesome!

  • Twenty 9th Graders from Georgia Take On Google
  • – Wow… this is great! This is an article about students that were using Lively (Google’s virtual rooms) that are protesting their decision to shut it down.

This also points out one of the dangers of using open source/free software. You are at the will of those that are providing that software.

The students have really done a lot of good work here… they should be congratulated… but if nothing else, they will learn even more real life lessons from this experience! :)

  • Creating Effective Communications with OneNote and Outlook webinar now
  • – This looks like a great resource for those trying to get into OneNote more and figure out how to organize their lives!

  • A Widget Onto the Future :: Inside Higher Ed :: Higher Education's Source for News, Views and Jobs
  • – A widget as a teaching tool… great article that introduces widgets and the possibility of using them to augment the classroom.

Google Friend Connect now on EduTechie!

A while ago Google came out with their own open social network that can be easily embedded on any page.  As a refresher, here is a video.

Today I was whitelisted to use the google friend connect on my site!  I have installed it and added a members link on the right hand side, as well as a place to add general comments!  Come join!!

So how is this useful in education?

Well, we already all know about the power of social networks in connecting students.  I like the openness of this new Google connect in that you can develop your own gadgets.  You could potentially connect this with Facebook and other social components to increase your exposure to the student population!

In the classroom it will add a distinct social component to any webspace you are using in your class!

How else can you see this being useful?
